  • All team members must be competent in all the traditional Adventure Racing disciplines and any additional disciplines specified by the race organizer. The team must be able to complete the event without any assistance from any person other than their own team members.

Teams must be capable of navigating by compass and map during the day and night. This includes all aspects of map reading - map orientation, identifying all map features, taking a bearing between two points on a map, and understanding the impact of magnetic declination.

Every team member must be capable of swimming.

Every team member must be able to attach their own harness and descending device to a fixed rope and complete the descent safely and with control.

Mountain and wilderness competency is essential, teams (at least two members) must have sufficient experience in mountains or wild areas that bring similar risks and/or hazards.

The team needs to guide themselves through remote and often unforgiving places. Comprehensive event safety is in place but the team acknowledges they are their first line of safety.

Team members must know what they will do in the event of an emergency, and be able to explain this in-depth if required.

  • I understand the risks and accept that participating in this event, with its remoteness and ruggedness, is a dangerous activity.

I understand and acknowledge I am competent to complete the activities that will be required of me.

I acknowledge that there is always the risk of injury, which may include permanent injury, mental injury, paralysis, and death.

I have sufficient knowledge, common sense, experience, and a survival skillset to partake in the event and all its activities, in a manner safe to myself and others.

I have adequate equipment to participate in the event and all its activities in a manner safe to myself and others.

I understand and agree that I am my own, as well as and my teammates, first line of safety. I'm aware and accept that rescue by the organizers, or any emergency services, may not be possible immediately due to various factors (Night, rain, equipment failure, another rescue, etc.)

If I get to any point in the course where I feel uncomfortable and believe the level of inherent risk is unacceptable for me, and I am not confident in completing it safely, it is my responsibility to not proceed in that direction or on that task. I use my skills and common sense to choose an alternate route, avoid the hazard, or even withdraw from that leg or the race. I agree and accept this is self-responsibility.

I am constantly assessing the inherent risk in all situations and will use my common sense at all times to avoid unnecessary risk, hazards, etc

I, and my whole team, have read the above, understand it and indemnify the event organizer against all claims.
